  • Sinking A Hot Tub Into A Deck Or Patio

Sinking A Hot Tub Into A Deck Or Patio

With spring officially in the air, you might be thinking a whole lot more about how nice it would be to enjoy an early morning or evening hot tub soak. A popular design solution a lot of new buyers inquire about with our team is sinking their Beachcomber Hot Tub into an existing deck or patio.

By sinking your hot tub on a patio, you are able to enjoy an elevated view in your tub, while you won’t have your view outside of the tub blocked by the new addition.

This sort of installation requires some simple yet very important preparation.

Tips for installing a hot tub into a deck or patio

    Structure

The safest and most cost-effective way to do this kind of installation is to have the tub sit on a concrete pad on the ground. This requires the deck to be no higher than 4 feet off of the ground.

If you want the tub on a deck more than a few feet above ground, things get a little more complicated. To start, you’ll have to hire a structural engineer to make sure the deck can support the weight of a filled hot tub. You’ll then have to consider how much of the tub you want exposed above the deck. This depends on preference, however you’ll need to have at least enough room exposed for the tub’s lip.

    Power

When planning any hot tub installation, the first thing to consider is how it’s going to be powered. Hot tubs require a nearby source of electricity, and because water is involved, any electrical hookup for a tub must include a ground-fault circuit interrupter (GFCI).

    Safety

Although getting in and out of a hot tub can get more difficult as we get older, sinking the tub into your deck relieves a lot of the hassle. To create the safest possible installation, have the tub exposed about 12”-20” above the decking. This allows the tub to be very visible and prevents the potential danger of tripping. Also, be sure to always use a hot tub cover when young children are playing around the tub.

    Distance

Sunken or not, for maximum enjoyment we also always recommend keeping your Beachcomber Hot Tub as close to your back door as you can. Ensure that you place it just steps away, so that you can enjoy it in any weather. Based on feedback from owners, within 10 feet is the distance you should aim for. This way, even in a deep-free, you’ll be able to step outside and right into the warm massaging waters.

We recommend consulting with a structural engineer prior to sinking or placing a hot tub on a hanging deck, to ensure you have the support required for the weight of it when it’s at capacity and fully-filled.

  • Benefits Of A Hot Tub Foot Massage

Benefits Of A Hot Tub Foot Massage

At the end of the day, there’s no part of our bodies that works harder or is more punished than our feet. You often hear people say they can’t wait to “finish the day and put their feet up”, but what about doing more for your feet than just laying them on the sofa?

When your feet are under stress, blood flow is limited. Plus, depending on your choice of footwear and daily agenda, your muscles and ligaments can be left constricted and inflamed. That’s why it’s so important to your health and happiness to give back to the muscles that keep you upright!

    The Beachcomber Reflex Foot Massager

A hot tub foot massage drastically improves circulation, transporting oxygen and nutrients to cells as the blood flows to the affected areas. At Beachcomber Hot Tubs, we looked specifically at how we could create a hydrotherapeutic experience that effectively combats foot fatigue. Our team of engineers worked to deliver a massage configuration that delivered professional-grade results. The result is our Reflex Foot Massager!

Providing intense jetting power to the feet, the Reflex Foot Massage (RFM) fixture fits into our spacious footwell. The upward jetting ensures that you are getting full relief to the one area you really may need it the most.

As Reflexology shows, your entire body is represented by and connected to your feet, meaning that caring for that part of your body can improve the health and wellness of all of your limbs and organs. While improved mood and increased relaxation are some of the benefits of our Reflex Foot Massage jets, listed below are a few more (you might not expect)!

    Prevents Injuries

By improving the blood circulation in your foot, RFM jets help with the recovery and strengthening of the muscles in your feet. Adding foot and ankle strengthening exercises and stretching can further prevent injuries and speed up recovery time.

    Lowers Blood Pressure

High blood pressure has become very common among people in our high stress society. A 10-minute foot massage session three times a week can significantly reduce the stress inflicted upon your body by the effects of high blood pressure and anxiety.

Helps Relieve Pain from Flat Feet

People with collapsed arches or flat feet often experience pain after physical activity because of inflammation and ligament damage. Regular deep massages from our RFM jets can help ease or even cure these pains.

  • Choosing the Best Placement for Your Hot Tub

Choosing the Best Placement for Your Hot Tub

As the weather worsens, keep in mind that the oasis of the Beachcomber in your backyard is just a few steps away. Or so it should be. By keeping your hot tub close to your home and easily accessible, you’ll be able to quickly step in and enjoy its incredible hydrotherapeutic benefits, even throughout the rains of fall and deep freeze of winter.

    Placing Your Hot Tub

Beachcomber owners surveyed say that the optimal placement for your hot tub is within 10 feet from your back door. You’ll also want it conveniently located to a place inside for drying and changing and close to a water line and hose for filling.

Also ask yourself the following questions:

    • Who will get the most use out of the hot tub? If you have small children, safety will undoubtedly be one of your top concerns, so factor in any railings, shrubs, trees or overhanging gutters as obstacles, when planning placement for space efficiency.
    • Will you be inviting friends out to enjoy it? Is seclusion your main goal? Or would you prefer a more central location? If seclusion is your preference, think about building an enclosure or putting it in a gazebo-like structure, with curtains that can be closed or open.
    • Will you have to install any privacy features? A small space can lend itself well to a cozy hot tub installation, but you may have to think about shielding accessories such as patio umbrellas or strategic shrub placement.

And remember to plan your delivery route as well, for a smooth and efficient installation process. For more on installation best practices, download the Beachcomber Hot Tubs Pre-Delivery Guide.

When deciding on placement, keep in mind that a Beachcomber hot tub can sit on any foundation that is level and can support its weight. Cement patio tiles or interlocking bricks are just some of the relatively simple solutions for you to create a solid foundation for your hot tub. Just ensure you avoid installation in a low area where water may accumulate and damage the equipment, and that your hot tub is positioned so access to the equipment compartment will not be blocked.

    Beachcomber Tip:

Remember to keep your hot tub covered when not in use and placed far enough away from low hanging branches to save you time and energy in cleaning out tree needles, leaves, branches, or sap.

  • Hot Tubbing Dos & Don’ts

    Hot Tubbing Dos & Don’ts

With the chillier fall weather back in the air, kids back in school, and long vacation days of summer behind you, it’s a time many of our owners tell us when they get the most frequent use from their Beachcomber Hot Tub.

More time spent enjoying the hot tub shouldn’t mean more time spent maintaining the water and mechanics. That’s why it’s important to follow a few simple rules when it comes to hot tubbing, that will keep your water sparkling, even under frequent use.

    Hot Tub Etiquette Checklist:

    Do: Shower Before

You always see signs posted at public pools and hot tubs asking you to shower before entering, and might be wondering, is that really necessary? The short answer is yes. Even a one minute shower can heavily reduce oil, dead skin, and dirt that you might not realize you’ve picked up throughout the day. By reducing the amount of contaminants on your person, you reduce the risk of them entering your hot tub water and adding maintenance to keep it balanced. Another little known fact is that showering before can also reduce that chlorine smell that many people associate with pools and spas. Chlorine only produces that familiar smell when oxidizing contaminants.

    Don’t: Bring Food

While a snack in a hot tub might sound fun, we discourage this for a number of reasons. First, your health. Remember when your mom told you not to go swimming until 30 minutes after eating? Entering the water speeds up your blood flow, and can cause discomfort if you are in the middle of digesting a heavy meal. The second and more obvious reason to avoid eating in a hot tub is the crumbs that inevitably end up in the water, quickly dirtying the hot tub.

Do: Keep A Clean Swimsuit Handy

Just like showering before a hot tub removes the contaminants on your body, keeping a clean swimsuit will keep you covered, without covering your hot tub with added dirt and debris. Give your swimsuit a rinse after use, or if you have an outdoor shower, take a quick dip under in your trunks before slipping into your Beachcomber Hot Tub.

    Don’t: Use Glassware

While glassware is an absolute no-go around a hot tub, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t’ keep water handy. It’s extremely important to stay hydrated before, during, and after a hot tub soak, as the process of hydrotherapy naturally heats up your body and leaves it more dehydrated. That’s why the second you bring home a hot tub, the first follow-up purchase you should make is plastic water glasses and bottles that are safe to use around your Beachcomber. While grabbing the nearest kitchen glass might seem harmless, a hot tub a slippery environment, and losing your grip on glassware can be extremely dangerous and costly in a hot tub.

  • Hot Tub Health: Achieving Mental Clarity

Hot Tub Health: Achieving Mental Clarity

A hot tub is more than just a place for entertainment. For years now, research has shown that frequent hot tub use is a critical building block in sustaining a healthy, happy lifestyle. One of the lesser known benefits of hot tubbing is the impacts on your mental health and clarity – and all it takes is 15 minutes a day!

Mental Clarity In A Hot Tub

While stress is unavoidable, what many of us don’t realize is it also inhibits circulations and leads to heightened blood pressure. When we are overly stressed, our hearts work harder and digestion slows down. Nearly every process in the body is negatively affected. Research has even shown that up to 80% of disease is stress related.

The jets in a Beachcomber Hot Tub are specifically designed to pinpoint major pressure points throughout the body to better stimulate the flow of blood and speed of the body’s processes. This boost in circulation will help your mind and body enter into a state of calmness, and has been clinically shown to reduce anxiety and stress.

With heat and massage working together, you’ll also create a release of toxins in your body, keeping you feeling healthier and happier than ever. Here are a few of the other mental health benefits of hot tubbing:

    Enhanced sleep:

Increasing your body temperature from soaking in a hot tub at night, before bed, will help you fall asleep faster.

    Natural headache relief:

If you suffer from tension headaches, a hot tub can help! Get in your hot tub, relax, perform some deep breathing, and let the hydro-therapeutic action of the hot tub relax the muscles that are creating the tension in your head.

Provide mental reprieve from physical symptoms

Whether your ailment is standard post-workout muscle soreness or advanced arthritis, physical pain understandably takes a toll on mental energy. While your body is healing inside the bubbling water of your hot tub, your mind will be freed from thoughts of pain. Use this opportunity to practice letting go of other mentally draining thoughts, such as work worries or routine responsibilities, and just focus on indulging in the solitude of your backyard oasis.

Find your sense of inner peace and live healthier and happier than ever before every single day with a Beachcomber Hot Tub at home!
