How To Landscape Around A Hot Tub

A hot tub is a great investment for your home that can help increase the value of your property. It’s also the perfect focal point for creating the backyard of your dreams – somewhere you and your family can escape, relax, and unwind.

The key to creating the perfect backyard oasis at home, is to optimize the space you have, and add in a few key elements that will elevate the function and beauty of the space.

    Choosing The Setting:

While there are a number of materials you can place your hot tub on, it’s not something you should simply glaze over when considering how you will set-up your installation. The base layer of your installation can set the tone for how the rest of the landscaping looks around it.

Whether you choose stone pavers, a concrete slab or sinking the tub into decking, be sure to leave enough room to allow for servicing and draining.

Remember, when choosing where to place your hot tub, try to maximize the natural views without sacrificing function. You’ll want to have your hot tub closer to your door for year-round usage, especially when you live in colder climates.

    Incorporate Natural Elements:

Particularly when you have a smaller space, including lush plants can help make the space uniquely you. With a little greenery around your home spa, you can get it to look like a natural hot spring or pond. Evergreens and yew trees are an ideal addition because they look great all year round. Including a flowing fountain feature can also help to amplify the sense of peace and relaxation.

Be mindful of not placing your hot tub directly under big trees as this may create added maintenance due to the falling leaves and needles getting caught in the mechanics of the tub.

    Shade & Exposure:

For added privacy, add in easy to maintain fencing (try bamboo), and grow higher plants and trees along the perimeter of your yard to block your neighbour’s view. Another option is to install a gazebo and added privacy screen to give you more privacy and shade during the warm summer days. For nighttime use, be sure to incorporate lighting installations that will ensure you have safe access at all hours.
