How Much Does A Hot Tub Really Cost in 2018

A hot tub is a long-term, life-changing investment. Finding the right model can make all the difference between a hot tub you absolutely love, and one that’s left unused after a few years in your backyard. So how can you shop wisely and confidently for your home spa?

When it comes to budget, the sticker price of a hot tub only tells you part of the story…

Up-front costs can sometimes leave prospective buyers second guessing their decision, but it’s important to maintain a long-term perspective and the expected lifespan and operational costs of your investment. When you go with a low-budget hot tub, you’re looking at a very short-term, no-frills experience. A Beachcomber Hot Tub, on the other hand, can last 15 to 20 years or longer with proper maintenance and water care.

Hot tubs at or below the $5,000 price point are most often so poorly insulated you’ll end up paying hundreds more each year to operate them than if you invest in a quality construction. That’s why at Beachcomber Hot Tubs, we use the same construction standards and materials across every model.

When it comes to construction, look closely at the insulation, the density of the cover you choose, the pump, and the heaters. Essentially, a high-quality construction is going to be able to maintain and circulate heat at a much, much more efficient rate than a flimsy, poorly insulated cheaper option. More on factors to look for in your hot tub!

    First-Time Buyer’s Tip
When you’re comparing your budgets to the models available, we recommend that you make a list of “must-haves” vs. “nice-to-haves”. These lists will help you understand the available options in the price range.

Many first-time hot tub buyers are unaware of the potential additional costs relating to installation. Depending on the model and location you choose, additional services may be required to ensure a smooth installation from electrical wiring to landscaping. The pre-delivery guide offered by Beachcomber should help guide you in getting a fuller picture of the checkboxes you need to have covered in this process. Be sure to ask your dealer about any items that you are still unclear on and ensure you are not going to be caught off guard by any additional fees.

  • What’s the typical life span of a hot tub or spa?

What’s the typical life span of a hot tub or spa?

As you start thinking about investing into a hot tub, one of the big questions that comes up is “how long will it really last?” There’s no one answer here, and the outcome is really dependent on first, the hot tub you buy, and second, the way you take care of it.

Based on the results of independent studies carried out to determine energy usage, environmental impact, and the life of hot tubs and spas, the average life expectancy of a hot tub was found to be only 5 – 8 years in most cases. When the results only included a list of more reputable manufacturers, the rate went up to 10 to 15 years.

How Long Can Your Hot Tub Last?

The Importance of Quality in Construction

So why so much disparity? It comes down to the quality in the construction of the hot tub you buy. If you buy an inexpensive, budget hot tub from a retailer without a strong brand reputation, you can most likely expect cheap construction and poor insulation. By cutting corners in production costs, manufacturers are able to offer these models at far lower price points. However, don’t be fooled by a low upfront cost. Not only will they offer you a much shorter lifespan, they will also be way more costly to operate and maintain due to the low-quality of the parts.

    Think Long-Term When Investing

Just think about it this way: if a hot tub potentially costs $5,000 and only lasts five years, that would be like spending $1,000 on that hot tub per year. If you purchase a hot tub that costs $7,500 and lasts twenty years, your usage cost would really be only $375. Even without factoring in the added operational costs of a cheaper construction, you’re still getting far less bang for your buck when you choose a budget-model and bargain retailer.

This return on investment, and more importantly, years of added enjoyment for you and your family, is one of the many reasons why we believe that purchasing high-quality hot tubs, like a Beachcomber Hot Tub, will help you save money in the long run and give you a product that lasts.

Many of our owners have had their Beachcombers for over 25 years, and continue enjoying regular usage from their hot tubs!
