• How To Stay Sun-Safe This Summer

How To Stay Sun-Safe This Summer

It’s the best time of the year in North America. The time we get to live outside, and enjoy the beautiful weather and long, sunny days. But just because you enjoy the sun, doesn’t mean your skin or body does. As you get ready for the weekend, remember the following tips below.

    Staying Sun-Safe Outdoors

    Wear (and reapply) Sunscreen

Put sunscreen on at least 15 minutes before you step outside and reapply throughout the day as needed. Remember, SPF numbers work based on how long it takes you to personally burn due to the harmful UV rays. If your skin burns quickly when exposed to the sun, buy a high number SPF.

If you are planning on enjoying a cooled down Beachcomber Hot Tub soak or a dip in the pool, remember to invest in a waterproof sunscreen that keeps your skin protected.

    Stay Hydrated

The more your body heats up, the more you need to keep yourself hydrated. Before you step outside, make sure to drink a full glass of water, and have a bottle with you in your bag. Listen to your body, and when you feel it’s getting too hot, take a break from the sun.

    Create Shade

Any well designed outdoor space includes shaded zones. We often ask owners about their installation plans for their new hot tubs, and we always enjoy them to find a spot with a level of shade or invest in a large umbrella that provides flexible shading when the sun’s rays are too strong. Permanent backyard solutions include a pergola or gazebo. On a more individual level, slap on a hot! It’s best to wear a wide-brimmed one, so you’re covered from every angle. A baseball cap might keep the sun from your eyes, but it doesn’t protect your neck, ears or face.

Plan your time in your hot tub or pool

Remember, the sun is strongest between 10 am – 4 pm, so try to avoid being out too long during these times. It’s best to enjoy your hot tub in the earlier morning, or in the evening and night, to avoid exposure to an excess of UV rays. Don’t spend too much time in it at once. 15 minutes is all you need to get your daily therapeutic boost.

  • SUMMER BACKYARD PARTY TIPS

    SUMMER BACKYARD PARTY TIPS

With the long weekend just around the corner, it’s the perfect time to make plans with friends and enjoy the sunny, hot weather while it lasts. If you’re looking for help with hosting the perfect backyard party, Beachcomber Hot Tubs has you covered with a few of our favourite tips below.

How To Throw The Perfect Backyard Party

    Add Some Shade

While everyone loves enjoying the sun, you also need to make sure you have spots for guests to cool off, without having to step inside and leave the party. Put up a patio umbrella or outdoor shade to provide relief from the summer sun. If you have a large open outdoor space, you might even want to invest in a backyard party tent.

    Keep The Refreshments Coming

Make sure your guests stay quenched with a bevy of refreshing beverages stocked in the cooler. Want a prettier pitcher of water? Dress it up with fresh slices of cucumber, oranges, or a handful of fresh berries for unforgettable H2O for your guests to raise a glass to.

    Clean Your Hot Tub Beforehand

This is an absolute must! You always want to keep your space looking its best when you’re entertaining company and this extends to your hot tub. Test the hot tub levels at least a few days in advance, to ensure your water is balanced and healthy with the proper Water Care products. Any time you are about to start a high usage period of your Beachcomber, it also might not be a bad time for a drain and re-fill.

Did you know even if the sun is still out, you can cool down the temperature if your hot tub, so you and your friends can enjoy a nice, refreshing dip!

    Set The Mood With Music

An amazing playlist is a great way to provide instant ambience to any backyard get together. Pair the food with some cool beats, or make a mix of everyone’s favourite summer jams to really get the party started. If you’re a music-buff in the market for a new hot tub, make sure you check out Beachcomber’s exclusive sound system (available as an option in select models). Add in a floating remote control and you’ll have everything you need to keep the music booming!

    Gather Around The Fire Pit

Treat your friends to a taste of cottage life right in your own backyard with a portable fire pit for everyone to gather around and enjoy. It’s the perfect way to finish the night and complete your very own urban oasis, without having to go anywhere at all.

    Keep Bugs At Bay

No one invited bugs to the party, but they always seem to crash the fun. Make sure to quell any gate crashing mosquitos and flies with a selection of bug zappers and strategically placed netting.

  • How to Cool Your Hot Tub Down for Summer

How to Cool Your Hot Tub Down for Summer

During the sweltering dog days of summer, your hot tub may not be your first choice when you brainstorm ways to keep cool. But think again!

Don’t let your hot tub languish until the fall when you can follow these easy tips to make it a cooling oasis over the summer as well.

If you want a relaxing experience in your Beachcomber during the day, try turning the temperature down to 95 degrees Fahrenheit (35°C) or lower. Anything lower than your average body temperature (98°F, 37°C), will feel relaxing, even during the hottest of days. You should play around with your water temperature to find the perfect daytime heat according to your personal preference and the temperature outside. Give even 85 degrees Fahrenheit (29°C) or below a try!

Remember that unlike a pool, hot tubs are insulated, so once you’ve initially cooled off your tub, the insulation will take care of the rest. Of course, in the summer, the combination of structural insulation and your hot tub cover can keep heat sealed in. So try leaving the cover off for a few hours before you turn in at night, or early in the morning. Another tip to making your hot tu95b cooling process more affordable is to keep it on with the cover open and air jets on. You can also vent your tub overnight by placing tennis balls or foam noodles under the cover on all 4 corners. And a quick fix could involve throwing in some ice or using milk jugs of frozen water (to act as giant ice cubes) that will instantly cool your soak.

Shade will also be a critical factor in making your summer soaking enjoyable, so think about adding a patio umbrella to your backyard setup if you don’t already have one. A strategically placed umbrella will improve ambience and allow for a break from the sun. Check out our article on ideas for How to Shade Your Hot Tub.

And remember to keep your skin protected!

Regardless of the water temperature you choose, bear in mind that water attracts the sun! Even if you’re under refuge of shade and you don’t feel the direct heat of the rays, it’s very important to keep your skin protected; so wear the same amounts of sunscreen you would use in a pool as you prep for a session of hot tubbing.

  • Can You Still Go On Vacation With A Hot Tub?

Can You Still Go On Vacation With A Hot Tub?

A question we often hear from prospective Beachcomber Hot Tub buyers is whether you can still go on vacation if you own a hot tub? The answer is pretty simple. Yes! Hot tubs won’t prevent you from getting away from home, and just because you own a property that isn’t your full-time residence, doesn’t mean that installing a hot tub is a poor choice if you think it would add to the value of you and your family’s experience there.

Prepping Your Hot Tub Before Going On Vacation

Hot tubs need to be drained and re-filled 3 to 4 times per year, so before you head out on a long vacation, draining and cleaning might be the best option.

For shorter stays away from the house, ask a neighbour to come by for quick maintenance 1 or 2 times. There are also a number of water treatment options available dependent on the duration of your absence from the house that will ensure your hot tub water and equipment stays healthy, and ready for you when you return.

Before you go out of town in the summertime, go ahead and add a little extra shock to your hot tub and allow the jets to run for thirty minutes to ensure that the shock has reached all of the water. Once that is complete turn off the jets and cool down the heater to save money on heating costs while away.

In winter, depending on where you live, turning off your hot tub completely puts the plumbing at risk to freezing. Before you head out of town, add water to your hot tub if necessary. Turn down your thermostat while keeping the water warm enough so it won’t freeze.

And remember, no matter the time of year, keep your cover secure! We recommend adding hurricane straps to lock it down, ensuring no excess heat escapes and your hot tub remains protected while you’re away.

  • Make Getting In and Out of Your Hot Tub Easier

Make Getting In and Out of Your Hot Tub Easier

After a soak, wet feet and wobbly legs can make it difficult to exit your hot tub safely. Considering that most accidents during hot tub use can happen while entering/exiting the tub, the importance of a handrail for safety can’t be overemphasized. Make sure you install a sturdy handrail and non-slip steps to prevent falls.

Consider these additional tips for preventing slips and falls while hot tubbing:

    • Only enter using the hot tub’s steps
    • Do not climb over the hot tub edges or on filter lids
    • Keep dry towels close by for hands and feet (think about installing a towel bar)
    • Ensure surfaces around the parameter of your hot tub are non-skid and give thought to safety concerns before installation
    • Use only plastic containers for serving drinks and snacks to guests in your hot tub, to avoid the added risk of broken glass
    • Talk to children about the dangers of running and horseplay around the hot tub

Our July Flex Bundle contains the Beachcomber safety rail, valued at $259, for only $129. The safety rail is made of high grade zinc plated aluminum and features a soft blue LED light for visibility. It also swivels to provide ease of entry and exit, and sturdily locks into position.

So if you buy a Beachcomber before the end of this month, you can take advantage of the July Flex Bundle and prioritize safety for your soaking!

  • Keeping Kids Safe in a Hot Tub

Keeping Kids Safe in a Hot Tub

Enjoying hot tub soaks as a family is a fantastic way to connect with loved ones, fun for kids, and effective relaxation at the end of the day. But if you have little ones, safety is always a concern. Check out this list below to make sure you’re taking all the necessary precautions this summer.

Keep your hot tubbing fun and above all SAFE.

    1. Enclose and/or cover your hot tub

Children who are too young to understand the dangers of water need barriers to accessing the tub when not in use, to prevent accidents. If your budget and space around the hot tub allows, consider surrounding it with a gate or fence. Putting up a fence with a self latching gate can ensure that your child cannot access the tub without your permission and supervision. Of course, at a minimum, you need a hot tub cover. Preferably lock-able, a cover will help trap heat/conserve energy as well as prevent curious kids from accessing the water. And make sure you explain to your kids that even if the tub is sturdily covered, playing on the tub cover is unsafe and not allowed.

    2. Stay vigilant with supervision

An accident can happen in a matter of seconds, so make sure that you keep your kids at arms’ length supervision while they’re in the tub. Also keep them from fully submerging in the water, regardless of their swimming skill. And younger children, such as those under 5, should ideally be kept out of the tub altogether.

    3. Turn down the heat

The max water temperature if kids are soaking should be 35°C (95°F), and the safest duration for them is 5-10 minutes. Also remember to keep kids hydrated while in the tub, providing water in water bottles or safe plastic cups.

    4. Educate kids on responsible hot tub use

The usual precautions that apply to outdoor play should be emphasized here: No running, pushing, or horseplay around or in the hot tub. You can place slip resistant mats around the hot tub and remember to provide towels. And take care to keep hair, clothing, fingers, etc. far enough from the tub drains to prevent entrapment. Entrapment is when something is suctioned down into the drain and the risk of it increases with the strength of your pump. It’s a good idea to test your drains with a kitchen sponge for entrapment hazard, and remember to warn kids about this risk.

With everyone on the same page about the dangers associated with carelessness in and around the tub, you’ll be ready to make summer memories with the family, with peace of mind for the safety of everyone soaking.

  • Enjoying a Hot Tub at Night

Enjoying a Hot Tub at Night

A Beachcomber Hot Tub is not only built for year-round relaxation, it’s built to be enjoyed at all hours of the day and night! There’s no better place to look up and take in the magic of the night sky after a long day than inside your hot tub, which is why we have designed ambient LED lighting to ensure your safety and enhance the atmosphere as you soak after-hours.

Hot Tub Lighting Packages by Beachcomber

    Exterior Lighting

Added exterior hot tub lighting includes our Star Trail and Guiding Light packages. Star Trail lighting, a feature first introduced in our 2017 Anniversary Edition models, lines the exterior corners of the hot tub and is inspired by the natural motion and beauty of starlight. Our Guiding light feature illuminates the steps leading up to our Hybird4 models to add a layer of safety and ease for exiting and entering your hot tub. Both of these features are available upgrades on most Beachcomber purchases.

    Enhanced Interior Lighting

While all models come standard with an incredible LED interior lighting package, accent interior upgrade features include our Eclipse and Crescent Moon lighting packages. Melded seamlessly into the interior acrylic, both of these options not only add illumination to the handgrips to help make evening soaks easier to navigate, but also provide a calming, ambient soft glow from your hot tub as you lie back and relax.

    Everlite Moodlighting

Lighting can make or break any situation, but did you realize there’s actually a science behind the effects of lighting on our health? It’s called chromotherapy, and measures the impact of colours in keeping our bodies and minds adjusted and balanced. The therapeutic benefits of Beachcomber Hot Tubs extend to this practice, with our Everlite Moodlighting designed with these healing principles specifically in mind. Turn your hot tub water into any colour of the rainbow, and create the perfect mood to enjoy some tranquility and calm before bed.

  • Ways To Use Your Hot Tub

Ways To Use Your Hot Tub

One of the most common first questions we hear from prospective hot tub buyers is “how often will I really use it?” You probably know someone who once owned a hot tub that sat non-operational, overgrown with foliage, for years in the backyard. Or someone who purchased a hot tub, used it regularly for the first three months, then stopped taking care of it until it eventually fell into totally disrepair. So how can you be sure you’ll avoid a similar outcome?

Getting The Most Use From Your Hot Tub

There’s a few ways to then look at this question, the first being something you really must consider for yourself. Hot tubs are designed for daily use, so it’s up to you to make this a part of your routine. By adding even a 15-minute soak first thing in the morning or before bed, you’ll start wondering how you ever lived without one. Also, think about more than just one way you can use your hot tub. Hot tubs are designed to help you de-stress and relax, as well as provide the perfect place to socialize or enjoy quality time with your spouse in the comfort for your own backyard. To make the most out of it, keep in mind all the different ways you can utilize it year-round.

The second consideration is the hot tub model itself. By choosing a reliable, high-quality brand, you’ll be able to focus on the benefits of the purchase, instead of becoming frustrated by continuously high-maintenance and operational costs. A hot tub is a lifetime investment, so don’t be fooled by a low sticker price, and really research product lifespan, insulation, and materials used in construction as you comparatively shop.

Finally, place it somewhere convenient for all-year access. How often you will really use it is directly related to how close your hot tub is to your home. On a dark morning, or when it’s freezing outside, are you really going to trek across the yard to get in the hot tub every day? Position your spa in close proximity to a door. If you are worried about noise, then be sure to choose a model with a dedicated circulation pump that quietly circulates the water 24 hours a day, eliminating the need for loud filtration cycles.

  • What Are My Hot Tub Water Care Options?

What Are My Hot Tub Water Care Options?

As you’re debating investing in a hot tub, one thing that undoubtedly keeps coming up is the maintenance and safety requirements. Choosing the right Water Care system is something that can impact the enjoyment and use you and your family get out of the purchase. Before you select a program, be sure you look at the full list of available options and weigh the pros and cons to ensure your selection is the one that makes the most sense.

Here’s a quick rundown on the water treatment options for your Beachcomber Hot Tub:

    CARE FREE WATER CARE™

CARE FREE is the industry’s gold standard in water care systems. CARE FREE is a 4-in-1 weekly water care system that replaces traditional water conditioners such as sequestering agents, oxidizers, biofilm disruptors and clarifiers. It is designed to use in conjunction with the CARE FREE BOOST™ sanitizer. CARE FREE is perfect for the regular hot tub user who appreciates the efficiency of blending all the ingredients you need into one great product and loves hot tubing in crystal clear, healthy water!

The Care Free System is available for over 50% Off with our Protection Bundle Upgrade for the month of July only! Full details here.

    CHLOR TREATMENT

CHLOR DISCS™ are stabilized slow dissolving chlorine sanitizer discs that control bacteria and algae in hot tub water. CHLOR DISCS™ are perfectly suited to fit into the Beachcomber floating disc dispenser. CHLOR BLAST™ is a stabilized granular chlorine based sanitizer and oxidizer that controls the growth of bacteria and algae in hot tub waters and is ideal for regular oxidizing. CHLOR treatment is perfect for the hot tub user who appreciates good old fashioned chlorine to get the job done.

    BROMO TREATMENT

BROMO DISCS™ are slow dissolving bromine sanitizer discs that create a bromine residual to control bacteria and algae in hot tub waters. BROMO DISCS™ are perfectly suited to fit into the Beachcomber floating disc dispenser.  BROMO BLAST™ is a practical soluble one-step non-stabilized bromine sanitizer and oxidizer treatment that controls bacteria and algae in hot tub waters. BROMO treatment is a system that is perfect for the hot tub user who admittedly doesn’t test and balance their water as often as they should and appreciates a more forgiving program.

While some companies promote the use of salt water in hot tubs, this practice is something that we at Beachcomber strongly advise against. Salt is corrosive to the pump and seals and will decrease the lifespan of some of the spa components.

Hot tub technology has also recently evolved to also include UVC supplemental filtration systems. ClearTech UVC is a system we produce and can add-on to hot tub purchases in the manufacturing stage as a natural water care solution for removing harmful bacteria, without producing any chemical by-products in the water, through the use of the sun’s UV rays in conditioning the water.

Be sure to research the water care programs offered and discussed with your local dealership or one of our team members online. Find the most effective program for your needs and you’ll get the best usage from your hot tub.
