• How to Accessorize Your Backyard

    How to Accessorize Your Backyard

Say friends are on their way over to your place. Are they coming apprehensively, excited to see you, but knowing that they’ll have to suffer some less than stellar outdoor décor and possibly balance their glasses of sangria in their laps? It doesn’t have to be that way!

Check out these ideas for accessorizing your backyard, before the summer is over.

Stock up on these five items, and an invite to your backyard oasis will be what everyone *hopes for* in this heat.

    1. Patio umbrella

Install some decorative shade and shelter your guests with an umbrella that provides both relief from the sun’s rays and accentuates the design aesthetic of your space. Cantilever umbrellas are a great versatile option for flexible placement.

    2. Patio seating

While patio furniture options are plentiful, if you invest wisely in your seating, it can last for many summers to come. If your outdoor space is minimal, a patio bar set may be your best choice. Otherwise, check out some conversation sets, which can feel like you’ve brought your living room outside. For pops of colour, versatile ceramic stools are the perfect size to use as small end tables or pull-up seating, and enhance the playful vibe of summer.

    3. BBQ Set

What’s a summer gathering of friends without food? Unless you plan to serve cheese and crackers, an outdoor grill will be critical for feeding hungry guests and fuelling kids for a day of outdoor fun.

    4. Lighting

Whether your style is rustic, and you have a soft spot for tiki torches, or your aim is elegance and strings of white lights are more your style, outdoor lighting is a non-negotiable when it comes to foundational backyard accessories.

    5. Beachcomber Hot Tub

And finally, the grand piece de resistance! A hot tub is the best way to gather loved ones while enjoying soothing hydrotherapy and relaxation. With or without a drink in hand, there is no better place for connection and conversation than in the warmth of your hot tub. And August is the last month to grab an Anniversary Edition Beachcomber, so make the most of the rest of your summer and order yours today!

If you want to extend the relaxation theme of your hot tub, but don’t have an extensive backyard garden, remember that potted plants are an easy — and often inexpensive — way to define your deck. Try a variety of plants and flowers to mimic a lush landscape and use lightweight fiberglass pots to make your garden portable.

If your backyard contains all of the above, pour yourself a refreshing beverage and congratulate yourself on a job well done!

  • How Often Will I Really Use A Hot Tub?

How Often Will I Really Use A Hot Tub?

You probably know someone who once owned a hot tub that sat for years in the backyard, eventually becoming overgrown and completely non-operational. Or someone who purchased a hot tub, used it regularly for the first three months, then stopped taking care of it until it eventually fell into totally disrepair. So how can you be sure you’ll avoid a similar outcome?

Will I Use A Hot Tub Enough To Justify The Cost?

    Make A Personal Commitment

There’s a few ways to then look at this question, the first being something you really must consider for yourself. A hot tub should be looked at as an investment in a happier, healthier lifestyle, and not just as an entertainment or recreational item. In order to fully realize all the wonderful wellness benefits of hot tubbing, you need to use your hot tub often – make it a part of your daily routine.

    Find The Right Model

The second consideration is the hot tub model itself. By choosing a reliable, high-quality brand, you’ll be able to focus on the benefits of the purchase, instead of becoming frustrated by continuously high-maintenance and operational costs. A hot tub is a lifetime investment, so don’t be fooled by a low sticker price, and really research product lifespan, insulation, and materials used in construction as you comparatively shop.

Install It Close To Your Door

Finally, place it somewhere convenient for all-year access. How often you will really use it is directly related to how close your hot tub is to your home. On a dark morning, or when it’s freezing outside, are you really going to trek across the yard to get in the hot tub every day? Position your spa in close proximity to a door. If you are worried about noise, then be sure to choose a model with a dedicated circulation pump that quietly circulates the water 24 hours a day, eliminating the need for loud filtration cycles.

We invite you to make your personal wellness a priority. You will find that when you use your Beachcomber Hot Tub daily, you’ll feel better and get the most out of the benefits it provides.

  • Creating A Calm Backyard Oasis

No matter how big or small, your backyard can be turned into an amazing outdoor oasis with a few simple tricks that are easier than you might think. There are numerous design elements, when combined together, that can create the perfect outdoor space for you to enjoy all year-round.

How To Build Your Backyard Retreat

    Investing in a “Wow” Feature

A hot tub is not only easy to install, and space efficient, it’s something that you can enjoy all year round, every single day. Our current 2018 Anniversary Edition Models even feature a cascading waterfall feature to make your backyard escape even more relaxing.

    Music

Creating the perfect atmosphere is essential to any space. Music is one of the best, and easiest, ways to set a mood. There are numerous outdoor speaker options on the market today, so shop around to find the one that best suits your needs and budget. The 2018 Beachcomber Hot Tubs Anniversary Edition Hot Tubs also feature wireless surround sound built right into the hot tubs. That way you can lay back and relax with the perfect soundtrack for every hot tub soak.

    Lighting

Adding luminous lights to your backyard escape creates an unmistakable warmth and accessiblity to the space. Lighting can be added through landscape lights, overheard fixtures, and candles. You can also illuminate your Beachcomber Hot Tub with our exterior Star Trail Lighting Package, that adds a soft glow to your outdoor space, even when the hot tub isn’t in use. Interior lighting features create the perfect ambience for nighttime soaks, with added safety for entering and exiting the hot tub.

    Privacy

Without privacy, it’s hard to really find a space relaxing, but creating a space where you can avoid the prying eyes of neighbours in an urban, or sub-division, setting, can be difficult to come by. Just get creative and layer in different elements depending on your budget. Simple outdoor curtains can offer flexible partitions, while landscaping with hedges and tall, potted plants will fill in the spaces over time. Investing in a privacy screen can provide you with an instant fix, so see what is the best option and start enjoying your backyard, without inviting the neighbours.

  • The ClearTech UVC Difference

    The ClearTech UVC Difference

Hot tub water care is more advanced today than it’s ever been before. One of the most exciting innovations in hot tub technology is UVC water treatment solutions. Below is a breakdown on the science behind it, and how installing ClearTech UVC in your Beachcomber Hot Tub could save you hundreds per year.

    Explaining UV Hot Tub Technology

ClearTech UVC works by harnessing the power of the sun’s UV light. This type of light-based water treatment is actually quite common in other water purification fields, including hospitals and commercial water plants, so it was only a matter of time before our engineers applied it to our own hot tub water care too.

    So How Does It Work?

ClearTech UVC destroys the DNA of bacteria and viruses, leaving them harmless and unable to spread. As a factory-installed purifier, it works directly through the plumbing and filtration of your Beachcomber Hot Tub. The water is left disinfected without the use of chemicals or other by-products that can be itchy, or strongly-scented.

This system is fully compatible with both chlorine and bromine based water care products, and it can help reduce their consumption by up to 70%, helping you save on monthly maintenance costs.

Quite simply, this is the natural way of cleaning hot tub water, and the perfect addition to your Beachcomber.

For the month of August 2018, ClearTech UVC is available for over 50% off as part of our Pure Bliss Bundle Upgrade. Click here for full details.

  • How Much Space Do You Need for Your Hot Tub?

How Much Space Do You Need for Your Hot Tub?

In choosing your hot tub and planning for your installation, the question of how much space you will need is a big one (pun unintended!)

To help you narrow down your options, consider the following questions in planning for your hot tub:

    1. Will my hot tub be located indoors or outside?
    2. How much space do I have available on my deck or patio?  Measure carefully and then re-measure to be sure.
    3. What are the measurements of door openings, fence gates or deck stairs for getting my hot tub to its destination?  Check the dimensions of your [planned or purchased] hot tub’s length, width, and depth.
    4. Will it pass through interior doors or exterior gates?  Check the weight of your hot tub both empty and filled with water. Will your deck, patio, or room floor support its considerable weight?

If you’re comparatively shopping, you’ll notice that most hot tubs are square or rectangular (the 321 is the only Beachcomber we offer in a circular shape) and have a footprint between 6 and 8 feet. Keep in mind, you will need additional space of 1 to 2 feet around at least two sides of the hot tub to allow for maintenance.

We also have a variety of capacity options, accommodating anywhere from 2 to 8 people, with the average size designed for 5 to 6 adults. So consider the number of people that will be making regular use of your tub. If you are planning on using it for yourself and your spouse, a smaller 2-4 person capacity will be perfect. If you have a family of five and are looking for something you can enjoy socially with your kids, look for a hot tub that fits more. And if you have small children, finding a model with a cool-down seat is important as it allows smaller bodies to safely perch higher above the water.

  • Health Benefits of Working Out in Water

Health Benefits of Working Out in Water

When it comes to workouts and soaking in a hot tub, you most often hear about the benefits of using it before or after an exercise session as a way to loosen and soothe tired muscles. But did you know a hot tub or pool itself offers a great space for getting in your daily workout, loaded with benefits not possible outside of it?

    Why Work Out In Water

    Buoyancy

By submerging yourself in water, your body isn’t forced to exert as much energy when exercising. Unlike other environment, a hot tub provides a “soft” environment for workouts. Not only do you not have to worry about falling, as the water supports the body in every position, but the water also helps alleviate the feelings of fatigue because it’s supporting so much of the body’s weight. In addition, flexibility results due to the wider range of motion the body can achieve due to the absence of gravity acting on the joints.

    Stress Relief

Like any regular exercise, hot tub workouts are great stress relievers. The exercise stimulates the brain to release chemicals that make the body feel good. When performing hot tub exercises in warmer water temperatures, the movement of water against and over the body results in both massage and relaxation. This calming effect can decrease, or eliminate the pain resulting from a workout.

    No Other Equipment Necessary

Due to the resistance of water, hot tub workouts in just waist or chest high water is quite effective for weight loss, cardio and strength training.

    Burns Even More Calories

Sounds too good to be true, right? Studies have shown even just laying in your Beachcomber Hot Tub, burns as many calories as going out for a short walk. Add in a few low-impact exercises, and you’ll have taken a big step in living healthier and happier every single day. Here’s 5 Hot Tub Exercises To Try Now!

  • How To Stay Sun-Safe This Summer

How To Stay Sun-Safe This Summer

It’s the best time of the year in North America. The time we get to live outside, and enjoy the beautiful weather and long, sunny days. But just because you enjoy the sun, doesn’t mean your skin or body does. As you get ready for the weekend, remember the following tips below.

    Staying Sun-Safe Outdoors

    Wear (and reapply) Sunscreen

Put sunscreen on at least 15 minutes before you step outside and reapply throughout the day as needed. Remember, SPF numbers work based on how long it takes you to personally burn due to the harmful UV rays. If your skin burns quickly when exposed to the sun, buy a high number SPF.

If you are planning on enjoying a cooled down Beachcomber Hot Tub soak or a dip in the pool, remember to invest in a waterproof sunscreen that keeps your skin protected.

    Stay Hydrated

The more your body heats up, the more you need to keep yourself hydrated. Before you step outside, make sure to drink a full glass of water, and have a bottle with you in your bag. Listen to your body, and when you feel it’s getting too hot, take a break from the sun.

    Create Shade

Any well designed outdoor space includes shaded zones. We often ask owners about their installation plans for their new hot tubs, and we always enjoy them to find a spot with a level of shade or invest in a large umbrella that provides flexible shading when the sun’s rays are too strong. Permanent backyard solutions include a pergola or gazebo. On a more individual level, slap on a hot! It’s best to wear a wide-brimmed one, so you’re covered from every angle. A baseball cap might keep the sun from your eyes, but it doesn’t protect your neck, ears or face.

Plan your time in your hot tub or pool

Remember, the sun is strongest between 10 am – 4 pm, so try to avoid being out too long during these times. It’s best to enjoy your hot tub in the earlier morning, or in the evening and night, to avoid exposure to an excess of UV rays. Don’t spend too much time in it at once. 15 minutes is all you need to get your daily therapeutic boost.

  • SUMMER BACKYARD PARTY TIPS

    SUMMER BACKYARD PARTY TIPS

With the long weekend just around the corner, it’s the perfect time to make plans with friends and enjoy the sunny, hot weather while it lasts. If you’re looking for help with hosting the perfect backyard party, Beachcomber Hot Tubs has you covered with a few of our favourite tips below.

How To Throw The Perfect Backyard Party

While everyone loves enjoying the sun, you also need to make sure you have spots for guests to cool off, without having to step inside and leave the party. Put up a patio umbrella or outdoor shade to provide relief from the summer sun. If you have a large open outdoor space, you might even want to invest in a backyard party tent.

    Keep The Refreshments Coming

Make sure your guests stay quenched with a bevy of refreshing beverages stocked in the cooler. Want a prettier pitcher of water? Dress it up with fresh slices of cucumber, oranges, or a handful of fresh berries for unforgettable H2O for your guests to raise a glass to.

    Clean Your Hot Tub Beforehand

This is an absolute must! You always want to keep your space looking its best when you’re entertaining company and this extends to your hot tub. Test the hot tub levels at least a few days in advance, to ensure your water is balanced and healthy with the proper Water Care products. Any time you are about to start a high usage period of your Beachcomber, it also might not be a bad time for a drain and re-fill.

Did you know even if the sun is still out, you can cool down the temperature if your hot tub, so you and your friends can enjoy a nice, refreshing dip!

    Set The Mood With Music

An amazing playlist is a great way to provide instant ambience to any backyard get together. Pair the food with some cool beats, or make a mix of everyone’s favourite summer jams to really get the party started. If you’re a music-buff in the market for a new hot tub, make sure you check out Beachcomber’s exclusive sound system (available as an option in select models). Add in a floating remote control and you’ll have everything you need to keep the music booming!

    Gather Around The Fire Pit

Treat your friends to a taste of cottage life right in your own backyard with a portable fire pit for everyone to gather around and enjoy. It’s the perfect way to finish the night and complete your very own urban oasis, without having to go anywhere at all.

    Keep Bugs At Bay

No one invited bugs to the party, but they always seem to crash the fun. Make sure to quell any gate crashing mosquitos and flies with a selection of bug zappers and strategically placed netting.

  • How to Cool Your Hot Tub Down for Summer

How to Cool Your Hot Tub Down for Summer

During the sweltering dog days of summer, your hot tub may not be your first choice when you brainstorm ways to keep cool. But think again!

Don’t let your hot tub languish until the fall when you can follow these easy tips to make it a cooling oasis over the summer as well.

If you want a relaxing experience in your Beachcomber during the day, try turning the temperature down to 95 degrees Fahrenheit (35°C) or lower. Anything lower than your average body temperature (98°F, 37°C), will feel relaxing, even during the hottest of days. You should play around with your water temperature to find the perfect daytime heat according to your personal preference and the temperature outside. Give even 85 degrees Fahrenheit (29°C) or below a try!

Remember that unlike a pool, hot tubs are insulated, so once you’ve initially cooled off your tub, the insulation will take care of the rest. Of course, in the summer, the combination of structural insulation and your hot tub cover can keep heat sealed in. So try leaving the cover off for a few hours before you turn in at night, or early in the morning. Another tip to making your hot tu95b cooling process more affordable is to keep it on with the cover open and air jets on. You can also vent your tub overnight by placing tennis balls or foam noodles under the cover on all 4 corners. And a quick fix could involve throwing in some ice or using milk jugs of frozen water (to act as giant ice cubes) that will instantly cool your soak.

Shade will also be a critical factor in making your summer soaking enjoyable, so think about adding a patio umbrella to your backyard setup if you don’t already have one. A strategically placed umbrella will improve ambience and allow for a break from the sun. Check out our article on ideas for How to Shade Your Hot Tub.

And remember to keep your skin protected!

Regardless of the water temperature you choose, bear in mind that water attracts the sun! Even if you’re under refuge of shade and you don’t feel the direct heat of the rays, it’s very important to keep your skin protected; so wear the same amounts of sunscreen you would use in a pool as you prep for a session of hot tubbing.
