Best Practices for Winterizing Your Hot Tub

Think ahead to winter. Is your hot tub featuring prominently in your plans? While some hot tub owners put their tub to sleep over the winter, these are usually the best months for soaking in it. And if you do a drain and fill in the fall, you’ll have your tub in top shape when winter rolls around. So unless you’re leaving home for a warmer destination, or your hot tub is at a cabin/cottage where you don’t live permanently, read on for steps for winterizing your hot tub to use it year round.

How to Winterize Your Hot Tub

To continue using your hot tub in the winter:

    1. Stock up on sanitizer for the winter and continue to add chemicals as you did in the summer.
    2. Keep an eye on your tub water level, as your water can freeze and cause problems with the heater and pumps.
    3. Assure the tub maintains its temperature so that the piping doesn’t freeze.
    4. Secure the Heatshield cover onto your hot tub

Alternately, if you want to hibernate your hot tub for the winter:

    1. Make sure all electrical components are turned off, including the breaker.
    2. Open all jets and control valves before draining the tub.
    3. Drain the tub as per normal and remove the plumbing assembly from the jet pump return line and heater inlet. Please consult your Owner’s Guide for details.
    4. Blow air into these lines with a Shop Vac, then suck the water out of the tub and from the pumps.
    5. Clean and dry the shell.
    6. Pour RV anti-freeze into the floor drain and secure the Heatshield cover onto your hot tub.

  • Prepping Your Hot Tub For Colder Weather

Prepping Your Hot Tub For Colder Weather

There’s nothing like escaping the cold quite like jumping into a nice warm Beachcomber Hot Tub while the snow and rain falls around you. While we may not be in the midst of the winter freeze quite yet, the colder months are quickly approaching. Before it gets too cold, it’s important to take a few maintenance steps.

Check the below off your list to ensure you and your family can enjoy your Beachcomber hot tub all winter long!

Drain & Refill Your Hot Tub Water

We recommend draining and refilling your Beachcomber Hot Tub 3 or 4 times a year. If you have a higher bather frequency, you may need to add 1 more cleaning. Trying to change the water when it is super cold outside is very difficult, and even more unpleasant. That’s why the fall is a great time to give your hot tub a quick refresh. Cleaning and refilling your hot tub will help to minimize the maintenance needed to keep it running perfectly all winter long so that you don’t have to spend extra time outside on hot tub maintenance. It’s also important to clean and possibly replace your hot tub filters, as the fall foliage can cause added wear. Fresh water and clean filters together ensure that your water runs properly.

    Invest In A Good Cover

The majority of temperature loss in a hot tub will occurs at the surface of the water. Before the winter cold hits, make sure to check the condition and insulation of your hot tub cover. If your cover is not ready to handle another cold season, you’ll end up paying for it in added heating bill expenses. For the month of October 2017, we have a special offer on our Beachcomber HEATSHIELD hot tub covers, with up to 45% more insulating power than the industry average.

Check In On The Water Levels

Periodically, you should check your water levels in your hot tub over the winter, especially if you haven’t used it in a few weeks. If the water level drops too low your pump and heater could shut down resulting in frozen water and possible damage to your hot tub.

By taking a few steps now, you’ll be able to get the most out of your Beachcomber Hot Tub, when you need it most!
