• The Importance of Insulation in a Hot Tub’s Construction

The Importance of Insulation in a Hot Tub’s Construction

As the permanent chill of winter weather creeps in, and you’re considering purchasing a hot tub, the cost of operation may be an understandable concern for you. At Beachcomber, we pride ourselves in our hot tubs being among the most energy efficient in the world! Energy optimization, and its resulting savings to you as an owner, is built into the construction of every tub we produce.

The key to minimizing heat loss and maximizing efficiency is hot tub insulation

Fully insulating the interior cavity of the hot tub is something that Beachcomber Hot Tubs continues to lead the industry in. Our patented Hybrid4™ technology allowed us to move the interior equipment outside the hot tub cavity and under the step instead. This in turn enabled us to insulate all four walls of the hot tub, blocking moisture and heat from escaping the shell on all sides. Just like the walls of your home, insulation is needed to prevent the transfer of heat out of the vessel. The insulation we use is a specially formulated foam product made right in our British Columbia factory, that is blown in and expands to fill every crevice of the cavity. After it dries, it cures and hardens, making the hot tub into an integrated unit to keep the heat inside. Independent reports also support Beachcomber’s Eco-design method of this Cavity Fill insulation by stating that “For purposes of efficiency, more insulation is better.” This is something you’ll see across all Beachcomber models and price points.

Along with saving you money on energy costs, the insulation allows the interior equipment to run at a consistent temperature, which ensures long equipment life, and maintains your desired water temperature. The foundation also plays an important role in the efficiency of your hot tub purchase. Look for a model that has a sturdy foundation, like the PERMA-SEAL™ in all Beachcomber models, that stops the internal insulated foam cavity from absorbing moisture and heat.

  • Cyber Monday: Tips for Shopping Online

Cyber Monday: Tips for Shopping Online

In recent years Cyber Monday has become somewhat of an extension of a week of Black Friday promotions following the American Thanksgiving holiday. Shoppers have more choice – and more chances to save – than ever before. But doing so can take work. And scoring a great deal can’t be the only goal when you sit down at your computer, credit card in hand. With this being the worst time of year for identity theft and computer fraud, you need to stay safe as well.

Below are some tips we’ve gathered for a successful Cyber Monday shopping experience!

    1. Bookmark your favourite retailers’ websites

Bookmarking helps you stay organized when planning your shopping and is particularly useful if you’re looking for holiday gifts for multiple people, to efficiently compare deals on similar products. And to get a sense of what will be most steeply discounted, it’s a good idea to Google previous years’ sales by the same retailers. While deals will vary from year to year, you can make quite reliable predictions, given that electronics, clothing and apparel, and cosmetics are all Cyber Monday stalwarts.

    1. Follow retailers on social media

This can be the best way to stay up to date on late breaking retail promotions. Twitter can be a worthwhile place to look for information about time-limited deals and sales on specific products or product categories. Facebook is better for highly targeted, hopefully relevant offers. Once you follow a retailer’s Facebook page and browse their website with cookies enabled, you’ll likely notice Facebook ads for products like those you’ve already viewed. Pinterest and Instagram are great for visual shoppers who want to see the products they’re considering in context before they buy, but not ideal for deal-hunting, given their brevity.

    1. Research shipping and return policies and fees

Many retailers offer free shipping on Cyber Monday, even if they don’t at other times of year. So unless you have no alternate options for the product you’re considering, you can hold pretty steadfastly to the expectation of free shipping. But make sure that you investigate the return policies as well, and call customer support if they’re unclear online. Any lurking return shipping charges and restocking fees can eat into your potential refund or store credit if you end up regretting your purchase.

    1. Set and stick to a firm budget (avoid upselling)

If you aim to be a savvy shopper this Cyber Monday, you may need to use some self restraint to avoid the lure of add ons or upselling to premium versions of your chosen item(s). And as today is a day of deals, it’s almost inevitable that you’ll be swamped by such offers. As a general rule of thumb, keep your holiday shopping budget on the conservative side. Because try as you might, there’s a good chance you’ll overshoot your projected spending.

    1. Avoid sites with poor security practices

Don’t gamble with your identity. Stay away from retail sites with questionable security practices. You should never enter credit card information on pages that don’t begin with an “https” prefix in the URL. This indicates SSL — an encryption protocol that makes it much more difficult for credit card information and personal data to be compromised during transactions. And if you’re shopping on a mobile device, download your favorite retailers’ verified apps too. Apps downloaded from legitimate sources, such as the Google or Apple Play Stores, are much less likely to pose threats.

    1. Shop in incognito or private mode

Cookies stored on your computer when you browse retail sites can affect the deals or prices that you’re later shown. Shopping in incognito mode isn’t a foolproof way to mask your identity to retailers, but it can make you eligible for deals not available to someone with your browsing or purchasing history.

  • Why You Should Invest in a Hot Tub Over a Vacation

Why You Should Invest in a Hot Tub Over a Vacation

While counting down to an annual or semi-annual vacation can inject some excitement into the daily grind, it may not be the best choice for sustained fulfillment. Memories can last a lifetime, this part is true, but isn’t it better to create those memories on an ongoing basis, rather than wringing them from experiences that happen once a year on vacation? If your family has a tradition of a visiting a particular destination, it may be hard to break from that tradition. But check out some comparison points below.

Consider the benefits of a hot tub investment over a vacation, to create new traditions this Fall!

    Enjoyment Frequency

A Beachcomber can last 15 to 20 years or longer with proper maintenance and water care. Vacations, on the other hand, are unfortunately never quite long enough. There is also much less planning and fewer logistical factors with a one time hot tub purchase, when compared to those involved in planning a vacation.

    Wellness

A hot tub provides daily or at least weekly opportunity for relaxation, meditation, connection and socialization with family, friends and neighbors. Depending on where vacation leads you (think calorie laden buffets in Vegas or boozy drinks and sunburns on an all-inclusive beach week), these getaways may have the opposite effect on your health.

    Connection and Reflection

There is nothing quite like soothing warm water and the pressure of jets upon sore muscles to help you reflect on emotional and physical wellness. Meditating in your hot tub on a regular basis can also help you achieve mental clarity and psychological health.

The distance and time away of a vacation can bring you clear-eyed perspective as well, which is useful in re-evaluating goals and determining what matters. But the problem is that resolutions discovered while away can often be lost in the frantic pace of the day-to-day back home.

Of course, a major factor in crunching the numbers to compare the two purchases (hot tub vs vacation), is the extravagance and cost of the trips that you take. But regardless, the consistency of a hot tub does a better job than vacations in maintaining the health, relationships, and mental clarity that contribute to happiness, making it a better lifetime investment overall.

  • Choosing the Best Placement for Your Hot Tub

Choosing the Best Placement for Your Hot Tub

As the weather worsens, keep in mind that the oasis of the Beachcomber in your backyard is just a few steps away. Or so it should be. By keeping your hot tub close to your home and easily accessible, you’ll be able to quickly step in and enjoy its incredible hydrotherapeutic benefits, even throughout the rains of fall and deep freeze of winter.

    Placing Your Hot Tub

Beachcomber owners surveyed say that the optimal placement for your hot tub is within 10 feet from your back door. You’ll also want it conveniently located to a place inside for drying and changing and close to a water line and hose for filling.

Also ask yourself the following questions:

    • Who will get the most use out of the hot tub? If you have small children, safety will undoubtedly be one of your top concerns, so factor in any railings, shrubs, trees or overhanging gutters as obstacles, when planning placement for space efficiency.
    • Will you be inviting friends out to enjoy it? Is seclusion your main goal? Or would you prefer a more central location? If seclusion is your preference, think about building an enclosure or putting it in a gazebo-like structure, with curtains that can be closed or open.
    • Will you have to install any privacy features? A small space can lend itself well to a cozy hot tub installation, but you may have to think about shielding accessories such as patio umbrellas or strategic shrub placement.

And remember to plan your delivery route as well, for a smooth and efficient installation process. For more on installation best practices, download the Beachcomber Hot Tubs Pre-Delivery Guide.

When deciding on placement, keep in mind that a Beachcomber hot tub can sit on any foundation that is level and can support its weight. Cement patio tiles or interlocking bricks are just some of the relatively simple solutions for you to create a solid foundation for your hot tub. Just ensure you avoid installation in a low area where water may accumulate and damage the equipment, and that your hot tub is positioned so access to the equipment compartment will not be blocked.

    Beachcomber Tip:

Remember to keep your hot tub covered when not in use and placed far enough away from low hanging branches to save you time and energy in cleaning out tree needles, leaves, branches, or sap.

  • How Much Space Do You Need for Your Hot Tub?

How Much Space Do You Need for Your Hot Tub?

In choosing your hot tub and planning for your installation, the question of how much space you will need is a big one (pun unintended!)

To help you narrow down your options, consider the following questions in planning for your hot tub:

    1. Will my hot tub be located indoors or outside?
    2. How much space do I have available on my deck or patio?  Measure carefully and then re-measure to be sure.
    3. What are the measurements of door openings, fence gates or deck stairs for getting my hot tub to its destination?  Check the dimensions of your [planned or purchased] hot tub’s length, width, and depth.
    4. Will it pass through interior doors or exterior gates?  Check the weight of your hot tub both empty and filled with water. Will your deck, patio, or room floor support its considerable weight?

If you’re comparatively shopping, you’ll notice that most hot tubs are square or rectangular (the 320 is the only Beachcomber we offer in a circular shape) and have a footprint between 6 and 8 feet. Keep in mind, you will need additional space of 1 to 2 feet around at least two sides of the hot tub to allow for maintenance.

We also have a variety of capacity options, accommodating anywhere from 2 to 8 people, with the average size designed for 5 to 6 adults. So consider the number of people that will be making regular use of your tub. If you are planning on using it for yourself and your spouse, a smaller 2-4 person capacity will be perfect. If you have a family of five and are looking for something you can enjoy socially with your kids, look for a hot tub that fits more. And if you have small children, finding a model with a cooling bench is important as it allows smaller bodies to safely perch higher above the water.

  • How Many Seats Should You Choose in Your Hot Tub?

How Many Seats Should You Choose in Your Hot Tub?

With the variety of hot tub models and jet configurations available, choosing the best one for your needs can seem overwhelming. Once you’ve decided to make the excellent lifetime investment of hot tub ownership, you need to outline your main needs for it. As you browse available models, ask yourself whether the main purpose of your soaking will be for stress relief and relaxation? For hydrotherapy? Or for social gatherings and entertainment?

Pinpointing the primary purposes of your purchase will help you answer the next question: how many seats do I need?

Keep in mind that the number of seats will also affect the size of the hot tub, so you’ll need to keep in mind how much space you’re working with before you begin comparing options. And try to rank the importance of various features, to be realistic with your expectations and to stay in line with your budget.

Here are a few things to think about when it comes to hot tub seating:

    Who will be using it?

Think not only about the number of people who will be regularly using your hot tub, but also evaluate the layout and imagine how it will work for your planned gatherings. How large is the foot well? How close together are the seats? Is one of the seats a lounger that might be great for hydrotherapy but likely awkward for larger groups?

Maybe using your hot tub for social gatherings will not be your focus. If you don’t entertain often or have a large family, you can save some space. If you’re picturing your hot tub as a place for reconnecting with your spouse, then a 4-person tub might be all you need.

What will it be primarily for?

The different purposes aren’t mutually exclusive of course, but if you’re seeking relaxation and hydrotherapy over socializing, then it might be good to maximize your investment with a tub that is more tailored to these benefits — even if this means a slightly smaller footprint. Look at your budget and consider what is the most important to you as you comparatively shop.

    Where will it be placed?

Consider how much space you have, and how you plan to design around the hot tub that you bring home. If you are looking to place it under a gazebo and want to have a hot tub that is socially-focused, make sure you leave space for people to get in and out comfortably in larger groups and for food and beverages along the sides.

When choosing the Beachcomber model that’s right for you, take these factors into account and decide on the seat number and configuration that best suits your needs.

  • HOT TUB INSTALLATION: HERE’S WHAT TO KNOW

HOT TUB INSTALLATION: HERE’S WHAT TO KNOW

One of the first questions we hear from potential hot tub buyers is how difficult and costly will installation be? The answer, has as much to do with us, as it does with you, and the preparation steps you take.

Here are a few ways you can cut down on costs and potential headaches when it comes to bringing a hot tub home.

Start By Measuring & Surveying Your Available Space

Before you enter into a hot tub showroom or start looking at models online, make sure you properly measure out the space where you are intending to place the tub. We recommend positioning your outdoor spa close to a door as you want to ensure it is as accessible as possible at all times of the year, (and in all kinds of weather). If you are worried about noise, be sure to choose a model with a dedicated circulation pump that quietly circulates the water 24 hours a day, like the Hush Pump available in Beachcomber Hot Tub models. When measuring, always keep in mind you will need an added space of one to two feet around at least two-sides of the hot tub to allow for maintenance and accommodate accessories.

    Install a GFCI Breaker

Most hot tub models need a GFCI breaker in North America as they require a 240 V hook-up that is not standard in North American homes. Have this installed by a licensed electrician prior to the delivery of the hot tub, so that you can quickly get your hot tub operating after it’s delivered.

Ensure A Clear, Level Pathway for a Smooth Install Day

We highly recommend going through a pre-delivery checklist with a member of our team to ensure you have everything covered in the delivery process. Things to think about include clearance between fences, roofs, and planters, as well as the number of steps to your chosen destination. These potential obstacles can impact what’s required by the delivery team on the day of installation, and by noting and communicating them ahead of time you can save time and money.

As always, make sure you speak to your local dealer or a member of the Beachcomber Support Team with any specific questions to keep yourself protected from additional fees on delivery day.

  • How Much Does A Hot Tub Really Cost in 2018

How Much Does A Hot Tub Really Cost in 2018

A hot tub is a long-term, life-changing investment. Finding the right model can make all the difference between a hot tub you absolutely love, and one that’s left unused after a few years in your backyard. So how can you shop wisely and confidently for your home spa?

When it comes to budget, the sticker price of a hot tub only tells you part of the story…

Up-front costs can sometimes leave prospective buyers second guessing their decision, but it’s important to maintain a long-term perspective and the expected lifespan and operational costs of your investment. When you go with a low-budget hot tub, you’re looking at a very short-term, no-frills experience. A Beachcomber Hot Tub, on the other hand, can last 15 to 20 years or longer with proper maintenance and water care.

Hot tubs at or below the $5,000 price point are most often so poorly insulated you’ll end up paying hundreds more each year to operate them than if you invest in a quality construction. That’s why at Beachcomber Hot Tubs, we use the same construction standards and materials across every model.

When it comes to construction, look closely at the insulation, the density of the cover you choose, the pump, and the heaters. Essentially, a high-quality construction is going to be able to maintain and circulate heat at a much, much more efficient rate than a flimsy, poorly insulated cheaper option. More on factors to look for in your hot tub!

    First-Time Buyer’s Tip
When you’re comparing your budgets to the models available, we recommend that you make a list of “must-haves” vs. “nice-to-haves”. These lists will help you understand the available options in the price range.

Many first-time hot tub buyers are unaware of the potential additional costs relating to installation. Depending on the model and location you choose, additional services may be required to ensure a smooth installation from electrical wiring to landscaping. The pre-delivery guide offered by Beachcomber should help guide you in getting a fuller picture of the checkboxes you need to have covered in this process. Be sure to ask your dealer about any items that you are still unclear on and ensure you are not going to be caught off guard by any additional fees.

Buy Now & Pay Later With Beachcomber

We are also proud to offer the opportunity for new owners to set-up a financing structure, with bi-weekly payments as low as $29.00. You can increase the payments at any time if you want to pay off your purchase faster, with zero penalty. LEARN MORE
