• Best Practices for Winterizing Your Hot Tub

Best Practices for Winterizing Your Hot Tub

Think ahead to winter. Is your hot tub featuring prominently in your plans? While some hot tub owners put their tub to sleep over the winter, these are usually the best months for soaking in it. And if you do a drain and fill in the fall, you’ll have your tub in top shape when winter rolls around. So unless you’re leaving home for a warmer destination, or your hot tub is at a cabin/cottage where you don’t live permanently, read on for steps for winterizing your hot tub to use it year round.

How to Winterize Your Hot Tub

To continue using your hot tub in the winter:

    1. Stock up on sanitizer for the winter and continue to add chemicals as you did in the summer.
    2. Keep an eye on your tub water level, as your water can freeze and cause problems with the heater and pumps.
    3. Assure the tub maintains its temperature so that the piping doesn’t freeze.
    4. Secure the Heatshield cover onto your hot tub

Alternately, if you want to hibernate your hot tub for the winter:

    1. Make sure all electrical components are turned off, including the breaker.
    2. Open all jets and control valves before draining the tub.
    3. Drain the tub as per normal and remove the plumbing assembly from the jet pump return line and heater inlet. Please consult your Owner’s Guide for details.
    4. Blow air into these lines with a Shop Vac, then suck the water out of the tub and from the pumps.
    5. Clean and dry the shell.
    6. Pour RV anti-freeze into the floor drain and secure the Heatshield cover onto your hot tub.

Fall is in the air, and now is the perfect opportunity to give your hot tub a deep clean before the inevitable winter chill! Doing this now will help you get through the next 3-4 months without having to drain and fill your hot tub when you and your family want to hop in and enjoy the perfect winter refuge. It’s also a great time to inspect your Beachcomber Hot Tub and its components for any signs of damage and wear. We’ve created a step-by-step approach to help you get your hot tub ready for the busy season.

    The Let Go – Easy as A, B, C

    STEP A: Remove & Soak

To remove the MICROFILTER™, twist the trim ring counter clockwise to unlock it and remove along with the floating weir ass mbly. Lift out the basket, and pull out the MICROFILTER™. This product flushes out an amazing amount of biofilm and bather waste from pipes, leaving a cleaner hot tub for a better experience. Test water for any sanitizer level and if present add NEUTRALIZER as directed to allow for environmentally safe dumping of water.

    Product Overview

ensure complete draining. To open, turn the outer part of the DRAIN & FILL valve counterclockwise to open and start the draining. Draining time will vary from model to model. Once the hot tub is drained and empty, disconnect the garden hose and close the valve.

R-eapply COVER CARE at least once a month to ensure optimal protection.

  • Tips for Entertaining Outside

    Tips for Entertaining Outside

Finish off the last month and a half of summer with a bang! If you’re expecting guests this weekend, follow these tips to ensure that your backyard gathering is a smash hit.

Don’t forget these important elements of backyard entertaining…

    Fire Up the Grill

Summer is officially the season of grilling. And dining al fresco is the perfect opportunity to get creative with what you barbeque, ditching the traditional burgers and hot dogs. If you have a fire pit, you can rip open a bag of marshmallows when the sun sets to delight kids and adults alike with s’mores. Don’t have a proper bbq set? The Beachcomber August Sale Event is on soon (August 24th to the 26th), so if you check it out at an outlet location close to you, make sure you enter the giveaway draw for a Performance 5-Burner Propane Gas Grill with Cabinet, valued at $542.99.

    Plan Seating

If you don’t have a designated outdoor patio set, consider re-purposing lighter pieces of indoor furniture, and dress everything up with summery accessories (think colourful pillows, small potted plants, glass vases). Incorporate shading into your plan as well, and strategically place a cantilever umbrella close to your seating to keep guests cool and happy.

    Snacks and Drinks

Keep these well stocked and flowing freely! Gather things like extra utensils, serving utensils, plates, cups, napkins, and condiments and keep them on a table or tea cart nearby, so you’re not rushing in and out of the house to serve refreshments during the party.

    Prep Your Hot Tub

As a key component of your backyard oasis, your Beachcomber needs to be in top shape for your guests to enjoy. Test the hot tub levels at least a few days in advance, to ensure your water is balanced and healthy with the proper Water Care products. Also remember that right before a high usage period of your hot tub is a good time for a drain and re-fill.

  • How to Cool Your Hot Tub Down for Summer

How to Cool Your Hot Tub Down for Summer

During the sweltering dog days of summer, your hot tub may not be your first choice when you brainstorm ways to keep cool. But think again!

Don’t let your hot tub languish until the fall when you can follow these easy tips to make it a cooling oasis over the summer as well.

If you want a relaxing experience in your Beachcomber during the day, try turning the temperature down to 95 degrees Fahrenheit (35°C) or lower. Anything lower than your average body temperature (98°F, 37°C), will feel relaxing, even during the hottest of days. You should play around with your water temperature to find the perfect daytime heat according to your personal preference and the temperature outside. Give even 85 degrees Fahrenheit (29°C) or below a try!

Remember that unlike a pool, hot tubs are insulated, so once you’ve initially cooled off your tub, the insulation will take care of the rest. Of course, in the summer, the combination of structural insulation and your hot tub cover can keep heat sealed in. So try leaving the cover off for a few hours before you turn in at night, or early in the morning. Another tip to making your hot tu95b cooling process more affordable is to keep it on with the cover open and air jets on. You can also vent your tub overnight by placing tennis balls or foam noodles under the cover on all 4 corners. And a quick fix could involve throwing in some ice or using milk jugs of frozen water (to act as giant ice cubes) that will instantly cool your soak.

Shade will also be a critical factor in making your summer soaking enjoyable, so think about adding a patio umbrella to your backyard setup if you don’t already have one. A strategically placed umbrella will improve ambience and allow for a break from the sun. Check out our article on ideas for How to Shade Your Hot Tub.

And remember to keep your skin protected!

Regardless of the water temperature you choose, bear in mind that water attracts the sun! Even if you’re under refuge of shade and you don’t feel the direct heat of the rays, it’s very important to keep your skin protected; so wear the same amounts of sunscreen you would use in a pool as you prep for a session of hot tubbing.

  • How To Prepare Your Hot Tub Before A Vacation

How To Prepare Your Hot Tub Before A Vacation

A hot tub shouldn’t prevent you from getting away from home, and just because you own a property that isn’t your full-time residence doesn’t mean that installing a hot tub is a poor choice if you think it would add to the value of you and your family’s experience there.

If you’re planning on heading off for a summer getaway, the checklist for your hot tub might just be the easiest part of getting ready to go.

Here’s a quick crash course on getting your hot tub prepped while you’re away:

    Short Vacation

For shorter stays away from the house, there are a number of water treatment options available dependent on the duration of your absence from the house that will ensure that your hot tub water and equipment stays healthy and balanced, and ready for when you return.

Here’s a 4 step rundown of what to do before departure:

    1. Test and balance the alkalinity and hardness level of your water
    2. Clean your filter thoroughly or just replace it with a clean one while you’re away
    3. Add an appropriate amount of sanitizer to your floating dispenser
    4. Shock your water with sanitizer before you leave

Be sure to secure your cover with hurricane straps. Along with securing your hot tub and keeping dirt from entering your water, this will lower your electricity costs by trapping in the heat.

    Long Vacation

For longer vacations of over 7 days, it’s extremely important that you take the time to prepare your hot tub correctly.

    1. Test and balance the alkalinity and hardness level of your water
    2. Clean your filter thoroughly or just replace it with a clean one while you’re away
    3. Add an appropriate amount of sanitizer to your floating dispenser. If you can, ask a neighbour to come by every few days to add in a few appropriate chemicals
    4. Shock your water with sanitizer before you leave
    5. Drop the temperature of your hot tub to the lowest possible setting to cut down on electricity costs

By following these simple steps, you’ll have a happy, healthy hot tub when you return.

For extended stays away, draining the hot tub prior to departure might be the best option. You should drain and fill at least 3 or 4 times a year anyways, so you can use this as an opportunity to ensure you have fresh, safe water after you return.

So even if you’re a big traveler, owning and maintaining a hot tub should never keep you from going on new adventures. Just do the proper preparation and you’ll have your own private vacation you can escape to every single day ready in your own backyard when you return.
